DOWNIEVILLE — All of Downieville’s Independence Day events were packed into Saturday, July 4th, making for a very busy and entertaining day for all. Beginning with the parade at noon organized by Suzi Pangman and announced by Bobby Yegge and ending with Ingrid Larson’s fireless fireworks, to the street races and tug-o-war for kids of all ages, then on to the Downieville Fire Auxiliary’s barbeque, Kathy Fischer’s Line dancing group, then the Firemen’s Dance featuring City Section, there was something for all. Thank you to the Downieville Fire Dept./Auxiliary for sponsoring these events.

Organizers of the street races for kids of all ages would like to thank Suzi Pangman for being our official “starter”, following in the footsteps of her late Uncle, Jack Marshall, who was dearly missed. Her husband, Brandon, also helped with the races, as did our official announcer, Lee Adams, who kept the races running smoothly. Ryan Lowery, Tony McCreary, and Owen Behlke were the line judges at the finish line, and Randi and Hailey Lowery and Irma and Cindy McCreary worked the prize table. Cora kept the hardware store open during the event. Generous donations to the prize fund were made by Downieville Improvement Group, the Fireless Fireworks, the Lavezzola family, the Galan family, and Sue Day and family, which were very much appreciated. Talented Susan Kintz designed the winners’ badges once again, and the kids love these souvenirs of the special day.
