FOREST CITY — Forest City Historical Association (FCHA) will be hosting our annual community AppleFest on Sunday, October 13th, 2024, in Forest City. The general membership meeting begins at 10 AM. All are welcome to attend the meeting.

The festivities begin at noon with a Potluck Lunch at 1 PM. FCHA will be serving sausages on buns. The Sierra County Arts Council is once again sponsoring the music. Dance and wiggle to “Captain Kitten and the Chicken Fried Cats,” or just sit and enjoy the music and the company of friends. Take your turn at the new and improved 1862 Buckeye cider press and press out some yummy cider, or grab the handle of the old ice-cream churn and give ‘er a whirl. This year’s ice cream will include Christian’s Apple Spice and Cheryl’s famous vanilla. The ever-popular apple dessert contest is eagerly looked forward to. The only rules are that all entries must be homemade and include apples! The categories are pies and tarts, cakes and cookies, cheesecakes and custards, and miscellaneous. Winners will be selected by a fair and square vote of the people.

The raffle is still gathering prizes. Robi has donated another of her beautiful quilts, and there will be more wonderful prizes. If you have an item to donate to the raffle, we would much appreciate it.

Jennifer and Adam of the Felix Galette Institute will be on hand with a variety of fruits and nuts and a ton of wisdom about the fruits and nuts that grow in our area. Local historian Glenn is a great resource and knowledgeable about the area’s mining history. Our craftspeople from Alleghany, Pike, and beyond will sell their beautiful crafts. Add good friends to the mix, and it’ll be an Applelicious Day for all.

All proceeds from this event help to support the Forest City Historical Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, for taxes, insurance, upkeep, and other costs. For additional information, call Cheryl at (530) 287-3133 or Birdsong at (530) 913-1534.
