Heuer presented a resolution of appreciation to Davey following his retirement as Sierra County Public Works Director.
DISTRICT 2 — District 2 Supervisor Lila Heuer has endorsed Bryan Davey to succeed her on the Sierra County Board of Supervisors. Heuer, who has represented the district since January 2023, outlined her long history in the area and her reasons for supporting Davey in a statement on social media.
Heuer won the District 2 seat in 2022 and took office the following year, succeeding Peter Huebner, who had held the position since 1998. District 2 ranks as the largest in Sierra County by area and stretches from Sierra City eastward to the Nevada border near Verdi. The district represents roughly 350 residents across several rural communities.
In February 2026, Heuer announced she would not seek a second term. She cited health challenges, including a chronic cough and thyroid issues, along with a desire to focus on family and personal time. “My last year in office I would be 83,” Heuer stated in a Facebook post. “I want to do other things for the next 5 years. Dropping out of the election and finishing up my term was the best choice for me.” A new supervisor will take office on January 4, 2027.
Heuer’s endorsement statement emphasizes local priorities and personal knowledge of candidates. “I have lived in Sierra City, which is in District 2, for 39 years,” she wrote. “Always voting for the people I knew who were going to do the best job. Even if they were the only candidate on the ballot I put a mark next to their name. To me it was a statement to them that I thought they deserved my vote. I never questioned their political party, because it is a non partisan office. I never saw national politics overshadowing local issues by Board members. Local issues are a priority.”
“I am voting for Bryan Davey on June 2,” Heuer continued. “I have known him and his family since they moved here. I encourage you to look back at your interactions with Bryan over the years before you mark your ballot.” She highlighted his record of service. “When we needed a fire chief the firefighters voted for Bryan to lead them. When residents of the County called for help he responded. He has a long history of committing his personal time to community volunteer projects. As the former Head of the Building and Road department, he has worked hand in hand with all residents and Board members. Completing many projects within District 2. District 2 is a unique district and he is familiar with each area and with the people who call it home.”
Davey retired on December 25, 2025, after 21 years of county service, most recently as Director of Transportation and Public Works. Davey began his county career in March 2004 as a Deputy Sheriff and later moved to the Public Works department in 2007. He advanced through several engineering and leadership roles before his appointment as director in June 2023. His projects included multiple bridge replacements and renovations to community facilities, and he oversaw recovery efforts after several natural disasters, including fires and severe storms. Davey also served as chief of the Sierra City Volunteer Fire Department from 2008 to 2019.
Three candidates are running in the nonpartisan primary on June 2 for the open District 2 seat. In addition to Davey, the field includes Sonya Meline and Michael Ostrom. All three submitted statements to the Mountain Messenger, available at https://tmmlink.com/nUQbDNT. Candidates will also participate in a public forum on Tuesday, April 28, at 6:30 PM, in the Sierra City Community Hall.
