DOBBINS — Firefighters in the Dobbins-Oregon House area conducted live-fire training Wednesday, using controlled burns to practice the kind of wildland suppression skills crews may need during fire season.
The Dobbins-Oregon House Fire Department had advised the public ahead of the exercise that smoke and flames could be visible in the area. The department said permits and safety parameters had been set for the training, which was supported by CAL FIRE’s Dobbins Station 60 and Foothill Fire.

Live-fire training gives firefighters a chance to work around actual flame, heat, and smoke in a planned setting. For volunteer departments, where firefighters often respond from home, work, or other daily responsibilities, controlled drills can help crews practice communication, hose handling, water use, fire behavior recognition, and coordination with neighboring agencies before an emergency unfolds.
