Downieville Lions Club Father’s Day Derby Brings Young Anglers to the River

DOWNIEVILLE — The Downieville Lions Club’s annual Fishing Derby was a wonderful success this year, bringing local youth and families together on Father’s Day for a day of fun, friendly competition, and fishing along the beautiful Yuba River.
Young anglers spent the day casting lines and enjoying the outdoors while competing for cash prizes awarded to the largest fish caught during the derby.
The winners were:
• 1st Place $100 Prize – Maddie Knoefler with a 16.5-inch fish
• 2nd Place $50 Prize – Brayden Fong with a 16.25-inch fish
• 3rd Place $25 Prize –Riley Carr with a 15.75-inch fish
The Lions Club would also like to recognize all of the young participants who helped make the event such a memorable day: Jaden Hensley, Avorie Misita, Rudy Jackson, JoJo Yegge, Tommy Rodriguez, Seth Malone, Maverick Neundorfer, Kahos McClelland, Sam Carr, Owen Fong, and Ricardo.
The Downieville Lions Club extends its congratulations to all the participants and thanks the volunteers, families, and community members who supported the event. A special shout-out goes to the American River Fish Hatchery for its support in making the derby possible. Seeing so many children enjoying the river, learning sportsmanship, and making lasting memories on Father’s Day is what the Fishing Derby is all about.
