Elephant and Twain Fires Near Full Containment
Firefighters continue mop-up and patrol as investigators probe causes; no injuries or structures lost.

TAHOE, PLUMAS FORESTS — Two area wildfires that ignited July 11 are nearing 100% containment according to the most recent updates available.
As of July 21, the Elephant Fire was mapped at 13,926 acres in Plumas, Sierra, and Lassen Counties and was 92% contained. Firefighters are continuing to patrol and secure the fire edge, as needed, and repair operations on the line have begun. Smoke has been reported within the fire scar in the last few days, as remaining areas of unburned fuel are consumed.
The Twain Fire in Plumas National Forest west of Quincy is now 100% contained at 276 acres, the Forest Service announced July 23. The fire has not grown since the day after it was reported. Mop-up and patrol operations are ongoing, but fuel within the firelines could continue to burn and produce visible smoke, the Forest Service said.
No structures were damaged in either fire, and no injuries have been reported. The causes of both fires are under investigation.
