SIERRAVILLE — Fire Safe Sierra County will bring back its popular Firepalooza event on June 6 at the Sierraville Schoolhouse. Organizers describe the gathering as a free, fun, family-friendly occasion designed to deliver critical information on addressing wildfire threats in the area.

Displays will showcase firefighting and fuel suppression equipment from CalFIRE, the US Forest Service, Sierra County Fire Safe, and private contractors. A full slate of speakers will cover topics such as evacuation protocols for large animals, including humans, as well as fuels reduction projects, mapping innovations to assist in predicting fire behavior, and programs to help homeowners create more defensible space.

Attendees can enjoy a free barbecue lunch. Representatives from area Firewise communities will discuss their specific projects.

“By all accounts, this summer is shaping up to be a potentially serious one in regard to wildfire threat,” Rodd Rummel, Fire Safe Sierra County Executive Director, said. “The goal of Firepalooza is to create a more informed public. Arming folks with the knowledge of the simple things they can do around their homes to help mitigate wildfire risk helps them, and helps the firefighters tasked with trying to protect property. It is a win-win.”

Firepalooza will run from 10 AM to 2 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend the event at 305 South Lincoln Street in Sierraville. People seeking more details can reach Fire Safe Sierra County at sierracountyfsc@gmail.com, Paul Cueto at cueto@comcast.net, or Mike Blide at (530) 320-5711.
