In Support of Sonya Meline
2 min read
Because I have lived and raised a family in Sierra County’s District 2 for nearly 40 years, and was fortunate to work for Sierra County and its Superior Court for 25 of those years, you could say I’ve seen it all – the ups and downs of each community and the County as a whole. Foremost, I believe the Board of Supervisors is obligated to work toward our security, and the economic and environmental health of the entire County, not just each Supervisor’s district. District 2 is a diverse population from Sierra City, Verdi and a small but important portion of Loyalton.
It’s critical that we elect an individual who holds that larger intent, has a broad education, professional business experience and integrity while advocating for their district’s concerns. I believe Sonya Meline holds those qualities and truly cares about the future of Sierra County in general. Her intention to revitalize the County’s Economic Council stands out for me among the candidates. This should be on each Supervisor’s agenda, ongoing, not mothballed as inactive, now for many years. Look around, our school populations are shrinking, our post offices are near closure, banks are gone and our beloved fire departments are struggling to remain staffed throughout the County.
That being said, this letter of support is not intended to denigrate any candidates who wish to serve our County and put their platforms to the test of small community politics. I suspect, that like myself, many of us who know and respect another candidate, and will need to carefully evaluate their hope for the future of Sierra County and District 2. I believe Sonya Meline will give the challenge 100% and will serve our District well.
Respectfully,
Lee Kirby
