NEVADA COUNTY — The Nevada County Board of Supervisors awarded the contract for the 2026 Road Rehabilitation Project at its regular meeting on May 12. Supervisors approved a resolution to select American Pavement Systems, Inc. for a total amount of $2,392,745.31. The award covers the base bid price of $2,175,223.01 plus a 10 percent contingency, and came in under the engineer’s estimate of $2.65 million. Director of Public Works David Garcia recommended the action in the board agenda memo.

The project will repair and resurface roads through digout and repair work on about 90,000 square feet of pavement, micro-surfacing on more than 2.3 million square feet, chip seal on over 1 million square feet, and cape seal on select sections. Crews will also remove old striping, install new pavement markings, and replace recessed markers.

County bid documents list work on Wolf Road, You Bet Road, Greenhorn Road, Lakewood Lane, and Adamson Drive, plus streets in the Darkhorse subdivision such as Darkhorse Drive and Retherford Road, Ironwood Court, the Alta Sierra subdivision, and Jamie Lee Court. Work is expected to start this summer.

Funding comes from the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account, Permanent Road Division Darkhorse funds, and County Service Area 12 Zone 1. The project requires budget amendments of $1,742,327 for Roads Engineering and $350,000 for PRD Darkhorse in fiscal year 2025/26. No money from the county’s General Fund will support the improvements. The project appears in the 2026 Annual Capital Improvement Program.
