NEVADA COUNTY — The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office has welcomed K9 Lambo, a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois. Lambo came from a local breeder and was raised and trained by Modern Canine in Sacramento before being paired with Deputy Kayla Ramos.
Deputy Ramos and K9 Lambo finished six weeks of advanced training with D-TAC K9. The Northern California organization specializes in patrol and detection work. The team completed 240 hours of instruction and graduated on Friday, May 15. Lambo began patrol duties with Deputy Ramos on Sunday night.
K9 Lambo earned Peace Officer Standards and Training certification in K9 patrol and detection. The certifications include obedience, suspect searching, building searching, tracking, article detention, handler protection, and apprehension. Additional narcotics detection certification training is scheduled for the fall.
The Rüdiger Foundation covered costs for Lambo’s acquisition and all specialized training. The nonprofit supports K9 resources for local law enforcement agencies. Foundation efforts help maintain a robust K9 presence in Nevada County.

Sheriff Shannan Moon reestablished the Sheriff’s Office K9 program in 2020. Lambo represents the fifth K9 to join the program since its revival. K9s Odin and Vito serve with Lambo following the retirement of Ranger in May 2024 and the passing of Riggs in March.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked the Rüdiger Foundation for its continued support of the county’s K9 program.
