On Recent Downieville Cemetery Contributions
2 min read
Dear Editor,
As Downieville Cemetery Director and Trustee, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Dave and Carol Marshall and their family for continuing the tradition of placing American flags on veterans’ gravesites at Downieville Cemetery. This meaningful effort was carried out for many years by Dave’s brother, Jack Marshall, and his wife, Linda, prior to Jack’s passing last year. The Marshall family’s continued dedication and community spirit are deeply appreciated.
I would also like to express my gratitude to Misita Tree & Land Inc. for their recent work clearing, cleaning, and maintaining the cemetery grounds. Their attention to detail has helped ensure the cemetery remains a respectful and well-kept resting place. We are grateful as well to former caretakers Mark and Tammy Helm for their years of dedicated service and wish them well in retirement. It has been a pleasure to continue this work with Johnny Misita and his partner, Zach Jordan, and we are fortunate to have such a qualified local business in our community.
While much has been accomplished, there is still important work ahead. One of my goals is to clear and preserve the adjoining Pauper Cemetery, with the intention of honoring and memorializing those buried there—many of whom have no headstones or markers. This will be a challenging but worthwhile effort, and I welcome any volunteers who may be interested in helping with this project. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to get involved.
Once again, thank you to all of our community volunteers. Your time, effort, and dedication do not go unnoticed, and they are truly appreciated by all.
Sincerely,
Cherry Simi
Downieville Cemetery Director/Trustee
