Tommy Fire Spreads Near Palermo

Cal Fire aircraft and crews work to contain blaze amid red flag conditions

PALERMO — A new vegetation fire, designated the “Tommy Fire” and estimated at 10 acres in size, is now spreading near Palermo in Butte County. According to Incident Command, the fire is spreading at a moderate rate and threatens multiple structures. It is also burning in an area which will be under a red flag warning starting Wednesday morning at 11 AM, when high winds and dry conditions are expected to be conducive to fire spread.

Smoke first became visible from the Tommy Fire at around 3:55 PM on Tuesday, June 9. It is now being overflown by several Cal Fire aircraft in the area. At 4:36 PM, resources on scene reported making good progress on containing both flanks of the fire.
