MARYSVILLE — Detectives from the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office arrested Marcus Daniels, 39, of Olivehurst, on May 4. Authorities booked Daniels into the Yuba County Jail on suspicion of homicide.

The arrest connects to the death of Christopher Williams, 39, of Marysville. Williams died on September 8, 2025, after a medical emergency inside the Yuba County Jail at approximately 12:30 PM. Jail personnel, medical staff, Bi-County Ambulance crews, and members of the Marysville Fire Department immediately began life-saving measures. Despite those actions, Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yuba County Sheriff’s Office detectives took charge of the investigation and processed the scene in detail. An autopsy and toxicology screening later confirmed the cause of death as a fentanyl overdose. Investigators now say they have developed evidence that Daniels introduced the fentanyl responsible for the overdose.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office previously reported the in-custody death on September 9, 2025. Williams had been in custody since his arrest in August 2025.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office at 530-749-7777.
