EMIGRANT GAP — Caltrans crews will shut down eastbound State Route 20 at the Interstate 80 junction to complete demolition of an overhead bridge span in Nevada County. The work starts at 6 PM tonight, May 26, and runs through noon on Friday, May 29.

The closure is a side-effect of the $112 million Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project near Emigrant Gap. Crews are replacing two aging bridges along Interstate 80 to boost freight efficiency and support larger trucks. The project also includes new median barriers, upgraded drainage systems, and roadway weather information systems.

Demolition targets the westbound Interstate 80 bridge span that crosses directly over State Route 20. The highway is being closed to prevent debris from posing a risk to passing vehicles. Westbound State Route 20 stays open during the work. Eastbound travelers must detour south on State Route 49 to reach Interstate 80 in Auburn or use State Route 174 to connect in Colfax, with large trucks directed only to State Route 49.

Motorists should plan extra travel time and check real-time conditions on the Caltrans QuickMap before departing.
