SACRAMENTO — According to statistics released April 30 by CalMatters, a nonpartisan, nonprofit statewide news agency, District 1 Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick ranks fourth among all 120 members of the state legislature for the number of bipartisan bills authored in the 2025-2026 legislative session. CalMatters counts bills with lead authors or co-authors from different parties as bipartisan.

Ms. Hadwick told the Mountain Messenger, “I am proud of working with all of my colleagues on issues that are important to my rural communities. Often, the divide between rural and urban is wider than party. People don’t know what they don’t know, and I take it as an opportunity to show them how different rural California is, and how bills can help or hurt my constituents. Working across the aisle has helped policies that matter to our communities be passed into law, and has brought key budget dollars back to the District. In fact, six of my bills were signed as a freshman legislator, the 4th most among all my Republican colleagues, and I hope to beat that record this year.”

Originally from Modoc County, Heather Hadwick was first elected to the Assembly in 2024 and is running for a second term. She is Vice Chair of the Assembly’s Agriculture and Emergency Management Committee and sits on the Budget, Business and Professions, and Insurance Committees. She was recently appointed Deputy Leader of the Republican Caucus in the Assembly.
