Doyle Rider Arrested After Motorcycle Pursuit on US-395

SUSANVILLE — A 21-year-old man from Doyle was arrested Monday after abandoning his motorcycle mid-pursuit and running into a residential neighborhood, the California Highway Patrol reported. It was the second felony evading arrest the agency’s Susanville office announced on U.S. Highway 395 in four days.

An officer saw the motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the highway on July 27 and attempted a traffic stop, according to the CHP. The rider did not yield. “After a lengthy pursuit, the rider ditched his motorcycle and took off on foot in a residential area,” the agency wrote. Susanville units located him and took him into custody without injury, and the CHP thanked the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office for assisting.

Four days earlier, on July 24, a Susanville officer clocked a Dodge Charger traveling 130 miles per hour southbound on the same highway and attempted a stop. That driver also fled. The pursuit ran more than 30 miles before the car’s engine failed and left the Charger disabled, and officers took the driver, a 19-year-old from Sparks, Nevada, into custody.

Under the California Vehicle Code, fleeing a pursuing peace officer while driving with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of people or property can be charged as a felony punishable by up to three years in state prison.
