QUINCY — Plumas National Forest confirmed last Friday that lightning from thunderstorms that moved into the area overnight had ignited eight fires across the Beckwourth Ranger District on the eastern side of the forest. Six of the fires were under a tenth of an acre, while the largest, near the Conklin Park Campground north of Frenchman Lake in the area burned in the Dixie fire, was just over a quarter acre. Another fire was reported Friday afternoon near Frazier Falls in the Lakes Basin area south of Graeagle.

All eight fires were controlled and in patrol status by Saturday afternoon, the Forest Service said, and no new fires had been discovered. Local fire departments were on preposition status over the weekend due to threatening weather conditions, and numerous visiting firefighters are in the area.
