QUINCY — From discussions at the June 9 meeting of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors, it became apparent that the county Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office is currently closed, with no staff available to process transactions.

County Administrative Officer Dan Pargee told the Mountain Messenger that the office closed for the week of June 8 because staff members are on leave and Treasurer-Tax Collector Julie White is attending a conference in southern California. Pargee said that county officials did not know of the closure in advance, but implemented a plan to continue services when they became aware of it. All regular Treasurer-Tax Collector services, except passport applications, are being handled by the Auditor-Controller’s office; tax payments can be made online or dropped off at the Auditor-Controller’s office in Room 205 of the Courthouse.

The Treasurer-Tax Collector is an elected official accountable to voters, rather than the county’s Board of Supervisors. White recently lost her bid for re-election to the office.
