Sierra County Releases Preliminary Election Results
Early counts show an extremely close race for District 2 supervisor.

Sierra County’s elections department processes ballots for the June 2 primary election.
SIERRA COUNTY — Sierra County has released preliminary results for the June 2 statewide primary election. Although results are expected to change as ballots postmarked by election day are processed, election-day and previously received ballots have been counted. So far, the elections department has processed ballots for 1023 of 2168 registered voters, or 47.19%. For comparison, in the final 2022 primary election results, 54.63% of registered voters in the county cast ballots.
The race for Sierra County District 2 Supervisor, one of only two contested county-level races, is particularly close. Bryan Davey currently leads by just 11 votes over Sonya Z. Meline, with 107 votes to Meline’s 96. Mike Ostrom trails in third with 20. In the race for District 5 Supervisor, incumbent Sharon Dryden holds a strong lead over challenger Ossi Korkeila, with 144 votes to Korkeila’s 85.
County voters are split in the race for California Governor between Republican candidates Steve Hilton, with 332 votes, and Chad Bianco, with 275 votes. Tom Steyer is the Democratic front-runner with 143 votes, followed closely by Xavier Becerra, who received 133.

For District 1 Representative in the newly redrawn Proposition 50 map, county voters preferred James Gallagher, with 614 votes, to Mike McGuire, with 247 votes. Audrey Denney received 104 votes. For the state assembly member in District 1, voters chose incumbent Heather Hadwick, with 582 votes, over Dianna James, with 288 votes.
